vent door

Post by bmcgc »

My 66 vent door is triangular.

The vent door on a jy 66 with the cable control is oval.

Do they interchange?

Does anyone know if the triangular vent doors are being re-manufactured anywhere?

Cheers,

There was a post about the differences on here last year or so on model year differences, my 65 has a cable op on the drivers side, triangular on the ps, is there a market for these? I can try to look next time I'm at the junkyard, but the trucks Samdog66 and I looked at [for other things ] the cowling and lower cab was rotted to death.

65-66 4x4s and big trucks had one of each, except the 66 f100 4x4 which had 2 triangle vents like the 2wd trucks

hmmmn.

The 66 2wd in the salvage yard has oval vent doors with cable pulls.

The passenger side is eat up but the driver side works perfectly.

There is a 63 sitting next to it that has a vgc header panel I tried to pull off today but one of those nut clips inside the fender is broke and the bolt spins, I couldnt hold a wrench on it and turn the bolt both so I had to leave it.

2.5 hours in the yard and I left with nothing.

i have never seen a 65-66 2wd with oval vents and i have parted out many trucks although none have come from the east so i wonder if its a plant thing

also i always take battery sawsall to salvage yard for bolt issues like that.

No cab step, no door tag.

Im 100% sure it has a 66 grill and core support, beyond that who knows.

I did the triangle-to-oval "conversion" on my '65 2wd; will be doing the same on my '66 4x4. Far more convenient. Best to remove the inner flange on the oval vent. Trivia: (that I don't know the answer to; maybe someone does)... Anyone know why they switched from the cable-operated oval vents to the reach-down-to-your-foot-while-driving triangle vents?

i say its because plastic vents are cheaper to manufacture.

may have had something to do with the new heater design in 65 too.
the earlier deluxe heater had the vent door in the heater.
