Newbie - 62 Build
Hi guys, new to this site but had my 62 for 25+ years, got it from my father who bought it in 1965. This is the second time I have built it, first was in 1989. Really like this old truck, will be better than ever this time around.

Re: Newbie - 62 Build
Rebuilt a 96 Explorer 5.0 roller motor with GT 40 heads, used Ford Racing E303 roller cam but thats about it. The motor has factory serpintine belt system so that is good. Putting in a 4R70W trans out of a 2002 F150 and will control it with a US Shift controler from Baumann Electronics.
Installed a E150 van 8.8 rear with explorer disc brakes, with redrilled rotors from currie enterprises. Wanted it wide so I could use later Mustang Bullit wheels with negative offset. Front end is out of a 72 F100 welded back into my frame, this was done years ago in 1989, running DJM dropped beams up front with disc brake set up off 73 F100. Also building a raised floor SWB bed off a 64. Much more to do but well on the way.

Looks great so far. Love the rims, have similar (Shelby Thrust) on my 67 Mustang.

Did a little firewall patching today. Also a pic when I modified the frame for clearance. Also got the brackets on the front of the motor.

Few pic's of work on the firewall today. Stripped the rest of the interior pieces and removed all remaining wiring. Going to install new harness from EZ Wire.

Re: Newbie - 62 Build
lookin good so far......one question for you, what is required to bolt up an '02 transmission to a windsor?? (Being as an '02 would be either a 4.2L V6 or a 4.6/5.4 Modular)
Cheers!
James
Re: Newbie - 62 Build
Has to be from a V6 to bolt up to the 302, 5.0. Bolts right up but you have to have a trans controller to run it, bought a controller from Baumann that should do the trick. Bought this trans years ago, it came from a 2002 F150 with I think 22k miles, it's just been sittin around waiting it's turn. Last restore I had a C4 with a 302 but the motor was wound up pretty tight at freeway speed and no gas milage, should be better on both now.

Re: Newbie - 62 Build
Did you bend the steel for the rear end or did you buy them like that? Great idea. Now I need to do it!
Re: Newbie - 62 Build
Bought them already prebent from Art Morrison. Found them in a write up in Classic Trucks September 2012 magazine showing them putting them in a 60 F100. Here is a link to the page with them.

Re: Newbie - 62 Build
What do you plan on using for firewall connectors when you do your wiring?

Re: Newbie - 62 Build
Some kind of gromet but not sure yet, have an aftermarket EZ Wiring harness.
Re: Newbie - 62 Build
Did you redrill the front rotors to 5x4.5 or are you running adapters on the front?
Re: Newbie - 62 Build
Much as I hate them i am using adapters.
Re: Newbie - 62 Build
I ran adapters on another car for many years without any issues. I've been curious about redrilling the F100 rotors to 4.5 but that probably still wouldn't work with the offset on the Mustang wheels you're using. You would still have to run a spacer, which would defeat the purpose of redrilling! LOL! But for my purposes, it might work.....brownie62 wrote:Much as I hate them i am using adapters.
How do you plan to mount the rear shocks?
Thanks for the response!
Re: Newbie - 62 Build
Wonder how the build is going?
