Yes - Rustoleum thinned with mineral spirits and many layers with some sanding in between. The first several coats are really thin and can get messy. Definately requires patience. As Rick mentioned search -Rustoleum Car Paint Job and you'll find plenty of links.

The web links indicate you can paint your car for under $100 but I am estimating my costs will probably be closer to $200 than $100. I've been a little more aggressive recently with the thickness and shorter time between coats and seeing bad cases of orange peel. So far have been working with smaller or straight parts. Hope to get started on the exterior portion of the cab over the next month and that should prove interesting. I am going to spray can the interior since most of it will be covered, etc.

In addition to the web links from yor search, check out the videos on you tube. It's helpful seeing what to do and in some cases, not to do.

Sorry for the delay in upating the build, here's where I am at with the project.

While the Rustoleum roll-on project was going well from an application and leveling standpoint, I just could not get happy with the color. With the cab being the last section decided to bag it and started going crazy with rattle can orange.

Cab is back on and have started a general assembly of the front clip. Really sucks not having a second set of hands. Front and rear windshields hve been installed and the new gaskets worked great. Got the fiberglass headliner from IRL and have it generally installed. Have a problem with one clip in the front and have to swap out the stainless screws for others painted white. Have the corner sections in loosely at this point and am waiting for a second helper before I finalize. Had the seat upholsted, pretty happy with how it turned out. Dropped a new set of classic lap belts and the look is nice. The PO actual had Chevy lap belts. It's not a custom cab but went aheaqd and painted the lower section of the dash white to provide more contrast. Turns out the new bench seat and white fiberglass headliner have provided plenty of contrast but these decisions were not final when I painted the 2 tone dash.

Most importantly, found a 64 NC license plate on ebay for the truck (this was before I decide to list the truck for sale). Am hopefull to have the project done in the next 4 to 6 weeks.

looks fantastic, 5k is too cheap if you ask me. start at 7. Some one from Clemson should snatch that up and go tailgating

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like an FE in the short originally. 352? Just curious how they had that mounted on the frame. My 64 has a 223, and I was thinking about an FE swap-in, but thought it was going to be a lot of work and the 223 is strong so I'm leaving it. :shock: And your truck looks fantastic!!!

Very nice, great headliner and great looking bench seat. I really like the frame color choice too. Most everyone goes black on the frame. Nice truck!

Thanks to all for the nice comments.

JCM - there was a 390 in the short bed. There were brackets welded into the side of the frame to support the motor, looked like it was done after the truck was originally built. I pulled the 223 out of the long bed and it fit right in, no fuss no muss!

Yeah, that was kinda what I thought was going to have happened. When I first looked at my truck before I bought it, I looked under the hood expecting a 292 but got a 223. I was a little broken hearted, and since it didn't run to begin with (bent rods, burnt valves, and a stuck rocker arm assy) I started thinking about my options and decided to see if I could nurse the 6 back to health instead of going through the hassle of fitting a 302 or 351 in it. Once I had the head rebuilt, new rods, rocker arm assembly, water pump, and ignition parts, we were up and running. Im actually pretty surprised by the power from it, and I guess I'll be keeping it because it's a good viable motor. ODO read 86xxx. Might have rolled over at some point in it's life.
A lot of help from my dad in slick expertise (who's in here somewhere), and the ElderlyIron Youtube guy for some more learning and motivation. (even though hes a Chev guy, but oh well)

Guys - here's the deal. Am losing my shop either end of December or January. Long story as to why but don't want to get into it. Have too many projects and not enough places to put them so have to pare down to a manageable number.

I posted the truck locally in Craigslist but did not mention it on this site because frankly am reluctant to sell it. The listing became known on this site because of another member posting a few of the local Charlotte F100's on this site. Knowing I have the only orange 64 F100 in Charlotte, figured it was only a matter of time before it was known to be mine.

I've already been jerked around by 2 "serious" investors who both, after wasting a lot of time, turned out to be not so serious. I obtained insurance on the truck today, am meeting with a state insepctor on Thursday to finish the title process and with a little good luck will get the truck on the road this weekend. My inclination as of right now is not to sell and predict once I get it on the road there will be no chance I will want to sell it.

Hopefully my next post on this site is of my driving down the highway :D

The only "serious" people on CL are the ones that give you money and drive it away. Everyone else is window shopping.

Hope you do keep it. Sorry to hear about the shop. Sometimes life happens...live, learn, and move on.

Can't wait to see you driving down the road!
