66 shortbed 429/C6

Post by Combat_Medic »

Well gentlemen, I've come to a crossroads. Second time in a month as it were... Long story short - my wife is due in the spring with #2(surprise!), and I'm buying my first home this week. Over the last three+ years I've taken the sweet little shortbed from a squirrelly weekend beast to a legit daily driver, thanks in large part to numerous pm's with veritable Vizard's of slickology and a ton of trolling on this board.

With winter finally arriving in Springfield last week and the new knowledge that I'll be broke as a joke come Easter, I decided to make room in the garage for my old girl. The plan was to start cleaning her up so that she'd be nice and shiny for my fellow wage earners to appreciate once the Feds return what wasn't theirs to begin with. Great plan right?...

Secure in the knowledge that I had every last detail covered and looking forward to enjoying the winter patrolling my warm garage, I found my plans completely and utterly upended yesterday. My wife stumbled across a diamond in the rough that I simply cannot pass up. The predicament - it's cash only. I'm putting my bid in this afternoon, but it will leave me uncomfortably cash poor once accepted. Cash poor with a pregnant wife and 20 month old child isn't my idea of responsibility, so I'm facing the hard truth that I really need to get in the motion of selling my sweet little shortbed sooner rather than later.

My question for you gentlemen is one of perspective - I'm panicking and need your wisdom. Is it dumb for me to try and sell her at a time of year when dam near everyone is low on dough? Should I take what I can get or would it be advisable to chance it for a few months until people start getting their taxes back? Thanks in advance gents. Forgive my lack of response, I'm headed to work and won't be back for 8-9 hours. Again, you guys rock - Josh

There will always be a diamond in the rough out there.

Keep the Slick, buy your house, have the baby.

Worry about trucks later.

The diamond in the rough is this house I'm after. That's what I'm saying, I am going to have to ditch the slick. Sooner or later is what I'm fighting myself over.

buy the house. There are tons and tons of slicks out there. rust free for short money, you just have to be patient. The house and family come first. I had a cherry 66 that I sold when my first son was born and I was sad, till I found another one I liked more 7 years later and I could manage the house, wife, kid, driver, and slick. Plus you can't write off a slick like you can your mortgage, plus this might be the best time to get in on a low housing market. no brainer to me. :2cents:

Plain and simple, I think you should just sell it for what you think it's worth regardless of the time of year. If someone wants it, they'll get it. Otherwise, just as soon as things get comfortable for you, I think this will be a regret if you let it go for peanuts.

Slickmainer, seven years doesn't seem that far away... I can do that. I was thinking more along the lines of William in that I'd be without my slick addiction until I retired, which really bummed me out.
Max, you mention what I am afraid of most - I don't want to sell my girl for peanuts after all the work I've put into her. I reached a compromise with my wife yesterday that kind of addresses that. I've put her up for sale on this site and don't plan on dealing with the typical low ballin' joe schmo for at least a couple more months.
Thank you guys.

good luck. I had my 1st slick for about 3 years then sold it. I took a loss of $600, which over 3 years was cheap entertainment.
