Hello, One and All....
Because I have already called and/or visited 8-9 places, what I'd really like to know is who has these, and who knows where I can find them.
There is an automotive specialty fastener company I remember reading about, but of course I don't recall the name when I need them for myself.
I know I am not the first to ask about these, or need these, but I sure can't find an answer in any of the Topic Groups.
Does anyone here know where to find these??
They are called a number of different things:
Thread Cutting Acorn Nuts <or>
Acorn Speed Nuts <or>...???
I'd like to get 6 of what I presume to be 3/16", another 6 of the 1/8", and an in-between size if possible.
Any ideas??
The hex head socket size is 9/16"
The Stud Size is 3/16"
Overall height is 1/2"
They are a self cutting thread, so they are not a machine thread.
They are also stamped out of sheet metal; not cast or forged.
Thanks for helping.
I look forward to your responses.
Dan.

Some really good hardware stores carry boxes and boxes of offbeat hardware like this. look for a good true value or such.

Iceman,
That was close, but no cigar.
They have a pretty picture of almost exactly what I need, but they have never stocked them, and could probably only order in large quantities.
Thanks anyhow!!

Not the exact same thing, but should work just fine.
"spring speed nuts"
www.mcmaster.com
Acorn nuts are actual nuts that have tapped threads. If you know the thread pitch they can be used in place of spring speed nuts, but should not be removed often as they will damage the threads of the stud.hand tight only no more than a few inch-lbs.

I remember seeing these kind on those backyard swing sets when I was a kid.

I just bought some of those from Lowes in the specialty drawers, i needed three , they were the nuts to hold the lid on my center console from a 63 falcon, look just like those.

Danny,
I hope my local Lowe's carries them, too.
That's exactly the reason I am looking for them, too.
Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check Lowe's, and let you know if I find them.
Thanks.

Are those for your side trim on your truck. I used stainless steel acorn nuts. They are 10-24.

Danny,
As I mentioned to you in my PM, Lowes did not have any idea what we were talking about.
Your Lowes apparently carries items that mine does not.
You nailed it on the head when you mentioned using these on the console lids, because that's exactly why I need them.
Thanks for the idea, and thanks for the offer of help to identify them.
I'm looking forward to learning more.
Thanks.
