59 axle fit in a 64??

Post by salf100 »

So I was offered a lowered axle for a 59 F100 to trade for my stock 64 axle. Ive looked around on the net and the measurements are the same. BUT, will it fit in a slick? I understand there are no lower shock mount holes, but anything else?? Its lowered 3.5 inches and the guy is building a stock looking truck. Any thoughts :?: or input would be great.

So for the inquiring minds....the axle fits! You do need to drill the holes for the lower shock mounts and use about 6-7 degree shims.

How does your scrub line distance look , if running tires with full side walls you will be ok , If you run a lower profile tire and a droped axel you have to be concerned sometimes. just my .02

could you post some pics for those of us that don't have a clue?
why would you need the shims?
Inquiring minds need to see.

I too have wondered if this was a poor man's alternative to coughing up the bucks for a dropped axle. 57-60 model Effies do have a pretty deep drop to them compared to 61-64 trucks. I was thinking the track width on a Fridge was a little narrower than a Slick, but I have never checked to be sure. Sounds like I need to get out the tape measure and find out.
At any rate, if this does work it would save me some money on a build. TR
