Vibration at 40mph or so

Post by unibodynewbie »

Hey guys,

Have a dropped straight axle with disk brakes. Getting a vibration at around 40mph and up. Is that a common thing you might feel on a straight axle?

Also, can someone point me to the thread that deals with hooking up a gas gauge from a mustang tank to my 61 unibody. Thanks.

Did you do and alignment after changing axel , king pins and spindles ? Tires ballanced.

That might be the cause .

Check lug nuts for tightness on all four wheels. Don't ask how I know.

"A vibration" can mean several things. Is it a slow shake, at the frequency of a tire rotation, or a faster buzz? The faster one is drive shaft related, usually. As said, check the angle the rear U joint is running at. Too much "kink" there will make a vibe.

So is this something that you can just shim the axle to get the correct angle?

yea, put something like these between the axel bracket and the spring pack, need to get an angle finder set it on axel to find what degree shim you need , check between the tranny output and the pinion on pumpkin.Keeping that as straight as possible, shoulden't take much .
