Change from T-5 to auto

Post by unibodynewbie »

Anyone know how hard it would be to change from standard from mustang to auto with overdrive? Wanting to trade out this standard to an automatic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

What engine do you have?

Im no expert but they made a aod that wasnt computor controlled. Just used a TV cable. Im thinking 1980 till 1990. they then changed to a AODE which has electronic controls. Good site for aod info.

You could go with an AOD up to about 1990 or you could go with the electronic version of it with a stand-alone controller for it. And then there is always the C6 or C4 if you are interested in a 3 speed.

I have one but don't have any idea if it is any good. As far as trading, yours should be worth more than the aod. You want a truck or Mustang tranny, as these supposedly have heavier clutches. Since your motor is 89 , is the tranny also 89? If so, it should be a world class T5, and bring more money.

Seems as though I see a lot of Mustang owners on Craigslist who are doing the reverse swap. Putting a T-5 in place of an automatic.
Might work out a trade or have source for an auto. Just a thought :-)

Thanks guys. I found another project and need to now get rid of this truck. It's in the for sale section. Need it gone. Thanks for all of your input.
