Broken spring

Post by stoney1964 »

I have broken spring on my hood latch. Looks like you could grind the head off the rivet and replace the new spring rather than buying a whole new hood release. Where can I get kit or replacement spring? Thanks

I think you are SOL on the kit. Latches show up on ebay a lot. You could also post a WTB here in the ad's section. IMHO!

Thanks slick brethren. I think its where there is a will there is a way to fix it kind of thing. You cant tell me that this didn't happen to thousands of cars and trucks over the years though. Surely there was a kit of some kind at some point. Just maybe not today.

Are you talking about the little spring that holds the 'hook' forward on the bonnet? If so DC sellls them cheap cheap, needed one for my roadworthy certificate down here. Yes the rivet can be ground off.

Thank you, Sir! Exactly what I was looking for. You know sometimes you go look at these suppliers online catalogs and they dont have what you are looking for under the most logical place. Yipeee!! I can get that fixed and off my mind now, if they are in stock.

Glad to be of help.
It is supposed to have a cotter pin or something to hold the new 'rivet' in place (it isn't a rivet at all, more like a pin in the DC kit) but I have had mine just sitting in there and the tension of the spring seems to hold it in place nicely. 10,000km and it hasn't moved yet.

I think part of the problem with the catalogues can be knowing what exactly to search for! 'hood spring hook latch thing' didn't show up when I searched!
