I'm Wondering If You Can Do This With Any Raised White Letter Tires? A Cheap Set Of Goodyear Wranglers For Instance?. I Have 16" Wheels, Any Not Many Tire Options At An Affordable Price.... This Is Ghetto-Engineering At It's Finest. I LIKE IT!!!!!!.....................

Hell, yeah, the Wranglers will work fine! Don't ask how I know, but it involved no more manual effort than pushing the go -pedal and steering slightly!
Beach sand and a posi will shine and whiten two of them, then you just have to rotate front to rear. In my case, with the 4 by, I only had one to change out!

I have seen it... A guy out Wayne is doing a set for his Econo and I got to see the test tire... pretty cool for the $$$'s...
Re: "Anyone Ever Tried This Maneuver?"
Years ago, guys would come out to used car lots to carve white walls on cars on the lots. I watched one guy, and saw the finished product. He had a small kit, and was definitely good at it.

There's A Couple Guys In California That Specialize In This. The Liability Issues Would Be A Concern Though I Would Imagine. Blowouts Due To Thin Spots In The Sidewalls And Whatnot.....
Re: "Anyone Ever Tried This Maneuver?"
Saw a truck in CCT where they did essentially the same thing but on the blackwall side to smooth off the raised lettering.
It looked really cool - have considered doing mine.

Re: "Anyone Ever Tried This Maneuver?"
I Wonder If I Could Spin The Tire And Hold A Piece Of Chalk Up Against It And Draw A Whitewall On It? Same Principle Right. LOL....
Re: "Anyone Ever Tried This Maneuver?"
There is a big influx of BF Goodrich 4x4 tyres with the white letters down here at the moment, I know they have white rubber underneath because most of the tyres have some sort of gutter rash it it shows up IMMEDIATELY. Usually you can see where they have just scraped against the gutter the whole way round the tyre.
It's a pitty though, BF goodrich dont offer the radial tyres or anything cool for the slick down here and imported are about $300. Thats each!

Re: "Anyone Ever Tried This Maneuver?"
I've seen the concept before, but not quite like this. That is, the methods I've seen didn't involve having the tire mounted on the car and spinning, lol.
I believe just about any raised white letter tire will work, but some just yield a wider whitewall than others. I considered doing this to a set of tires I had given to me once. They had nice chunky corner lugs on them so they would have looked like a whitewall cheater slick.

Re: "Anyone Ever Tried This Maneuver?"
I've seen that before- It scared me a bit, I'm sure that there is plenty of material there, but I just don't feel right sanding my sidewalls down!!
That said, I have a collection of vintage boats, and all of them sit on vintage trailers... I wanted whitewalls, but they were not available in the correct size, so I made my own-

I used about 3-4 coats of matte white spray paint, the 'cheap' stuff that's on the bottom shelf. Cost me about a dollar to do the pair.
That pic is after two years on the trailer. Granted, it doesn't get the same use that most of you put your trucks through, but they still look pretty decent!
And, the "whole package"-

Re: "Anyone Ever Tried This Maneuver?"
I don't think I will ever try that, and I don't believe that you can do it with the majority of the tires. All the tires I used to work on in the tire shops I worked do not have white rubber under the black. To do a different color wall on a tire, the sidewall needs to be grooved and then filled with rubber and vulcanized to provide some support to the side wall.
