net step is to get a new battery, remove the plugs and put some oil in holes, and take the valve covers off and put some oil on the top end. Also have to replace some rubber fuel lines that are cracked.

on a side note, at the junk yard today, I found a yblock with a 4bbl intake, holley carb and ram horn exhaust. the horns were 1960 codes, and the intake was 1961 Truck code. He wanted $150 for the intake, horns and carb. i passed but covered the engine up (it was hiding inside the back of a box truck up on blocks)

$150 is a good deal for that
seen sets of rams horns go as high as $500 on evilbay

i have 1 extra rams horn here, $150 might get it but you would have to work a bit to talk me into itl

I'd left there with $150 less...that's a steal!!!

I know it's good, it's been there for years, but I just bought some mustang seats so my money is also going to those and the brackets.
I assume its an industrial yblock. I wasn't able to turn the engine over by hand but it all looked pretty good. had different valve covers than I had seen before. there were raised bars on both sides of the bolts that hold them down.
looked like this

based on the pattern of these horns where the bolts aren't in a line, Im guessing i'd have to take the whole block to make it work, or the heads but by that point might as well have the whole thing

That could be different than the 292/312 variation. They made a truck motor that I think is called LYB and its different. Check on the Yblock forum There smarter than me.

Still a good motor, though. I'd like to find a couple but one hasn't shown up in a salvage yard around here.

The oil pump, rocker stands and maybe a few other things will work on the Ford but nothing too significant.

well all that aside, thank you for all the info on the starter...and verification that that $150 would have been money wasted.

yeah, that's a Lincoln Y. If you'll notice the bolts holding on the Rams horns at front are at an angle instead of straight across horizontal.

I like that cooler on the Power steering setup! never seen that before.

well i bought a new battery today and replaces some fuel hoses, but I still couldn't get it to fire. I could see some fuel fill up the inline filter so the fuel pump is working but I don't think I had enough gas on hand as it wouldn't fill up all the way.
I tried using starting fluid sprayed in the carb but that didn't help anyway. I think my next step will be to clean out the gas tank and check the coil and distributor. My sparkplugs wouldn't budge as I tried to take them out but I didn't want to break one off. so, i just covered it up and i'll try it again some other time. grrsign.gif
