question on wheel and tire size for you lowered guys

Post by shocker998md »

Im looking to find what backspacing I will need to use to fit a 255/80/15 or something close to that on the back of my truck when I lower it. So far Ive only found one guy running that tire on a lowered truck but he doesnt know his backspacing.

My plan will be to go spring under axle for the back and run that tire on a 15x8. Since my search for 15x8s have not been so good, and im not spending almost 250 on a set of steel wheels from wheel vintiques im going to make a set with stuff I have laying around.

I dont plan on tubbing the wheel wells, but I would consider rolling the lips if I have too. I want to run the deepest lipped steel wheel that I can. Thanks for any input guys!

i'm thinking 3.5 for sure and possibly 4.0. i had a 275/60-17 on a lowered 68 and i'm thinking those wheels had 4.0" of backspace. i did have some scrubbing of the paint on the inner fender, but it was minimal.

So with 4 inches a 255 70 should be fine then I'm guessing.

275x60x15 on 15x8 American Racing Rodmasters,
lowered ALOT, lol. I seem to remember the spacing at 4".

I also have a little rubbing on the wheelhouses, nothing a 1/4" billet spacer won't fix.

I have 275/55 17" and my backspacing is 3.5" Fits well. 4" would probably fit, although I have load assist airbags that would interfear with 4" backspacing.

My 15's I used to have were 15x8 with 3.75" backspacing and a 275x60 tire. It fit very well.

Yea but I plan on having mine low. Spring under axle and then a one inch block.

I've only seen one that is that low with 255 70s on a 15x8, but he doesn't know his backspacing.

I flipped the rear axle and c-notched the frame, I only have around 2~1/2" from the center section of the rear end to the bottom of the bed floor. One thing I didn't think about was removing and installing the tires/wheels. I have to undo the shocks to get the rear end dropped far enough. I used 18x9.5" -4mm offset, 5.031 in. backspace with 275/40/18 tires.

I love those BOSS 338 wheels. I wanted them on mine but had to go with deeper backspacing due to the wider axle stance. Do you have a full side picture of the blue truck? Would love to see how it looks. I went with narrower, taller tire to keep some of the classic look, but yours looks great! Show us the rest of it!
