One thing to remember...

Good tattoos are NOT cheap and cheap tattoos are NOT good.

You're better off doing research on the shop and the artist instead of being like walking down the main strip and then, oh this looks like a nice shop. I hope you've done your homework and know Tattoos.

I have the gear and lightning bolt on my forearm.

As Jimmy Buffet sings about tattoos...

..."It's a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling."

Good luck and post some photos when you return.

You could go a little further and have Kat do it for you.

I think I try for that if I were heading that way - seriously hot girl with a sexy voice.

The 428 Emblems would be cool too BTW.

take a pic of your truck with you. a good artist should be able to cartoon it to your liking, but i would think it would turn out better if you had a reputable local ink slinger do it. that way he could take some time with the pic and get it just the way you want it. plus, most good art takes more than one trip. unless you want to spend most of the day in a chair all at once.

Indeed. Before I ever got my gear and lightning bolt, I did my research. The guy that did it is a total car guy, so he knew how emblems should look and added stuff I hadn't even thought about -- I didn't want someone that was NOT a car guy doing it. You'd be alot better off getting someone local to do it. You'll find that some artist won't even touch that kinda work. Some guys specialize in realism, some artist refuse to do Koi fish or anything that's a "fad" or the "in" thing. Also with someone local, should some of the ink get pulled out with scabbing, you can go back to him and he'll touch it up for free, he'll guarantee his work if he's worth his salt.

And like someone else said, take a picture of your truck and tell him to give it the Ed Roth or Trosley treatment.

I've thought about having my trucks put on me somewhere, but that'll be down the road cause I want them looking real, not cartooned....and it'll be expensive.

With my gear and lightning bolt, I knew WHAT I wanted and I knew WHY I wanted... just couldn't ever decide where. I even drew it on myself with an ink pen for several months here and there, just to get an idea of catching the site of the ink on my skin. Because it was so much for ME to remind me where my passion lies - old Ford trucks - and to keep my Faith, it absolutely had to be somewhere *I* could see it. And ya know, as long as I've had it, I still get people at work that say, omg, when did you get that done? I'm like, I've got this massive tattoo on my forearm and most folks don't even notice it. *shrug*

Hell, I carried the idea around for 8 years or so before I got it. Did my research, tons of pics, tons of recommendations. Went by the shop, met the guy... total car guy and down to earth. One of THE best in Atlanta. First tattoo ever and its huge and its smack dab on my forearm. For days, I kept waiting for the regret to sink in, for the "what in the world have I done" to sink in... but it never did.

Now the little stars I got on my collar bone, each side... they were spur of the moment....totally, had heard about another guy and just wanted to go by and meet him and he was kinda standing around and I said, hey, if you're not busy, I've been thinking about some cute little stars right here... and 2 hours later, I was like... *teehee*... and I think they're cute, but I'm like, eh, not what I had in mind... so yeah... it can make a difference thinking about exactly what you want and if you still want it in 6-8 months or whatever, then do it.

Sorry, I tend to ramble. But when I was thinking about mine, I was always reading and listening to people's suggestions who had been there, done that... its not like you're trying to decide on wheels for your car or cutting a hole in the dash that can be fixed... this is pretty much, once its done, its done...forever and ever. Haha.

And azratrod, that is the biggest spark plug I have ever seen.

I just finished up my half leg and am actually another tattoo touched up on wednesday evening. I gave up on meaning a long time ago but the meanings lose their hold after awhile so I just stick with real pretty work lol. Currently I am going to Mason Williams at Plurabella Tattoo in cincinnati, ohio and he's real good at stuff lol. But I really like the cartoon pics of the slick, that would probably be the best way to do it. I have seen very few realistic tattoos of cars that look good because a lot of artists can't make it look 3D and it just looks flat if that makes sense.

Oh, and Kat does good work but there are way better artists that charge far less, her minimum is $800.00 no matter what it is. Check out Kore Flatmo's work at http://www.plurabella.com/tattoos/index.html. He is Kat's favorite artist and is the one who did the eye on her hand.
