I had a '93 mk viii w/4.10 and trac loc and still got 22/24 mpg and it would EAT UP stock 5.0's and GT's.

I've been going back and forth in my head for weeks about which engine to go with. I really like the DOHC engines (if for the looks if nothing else) :-) and low mileage Mark VIII engines can be had in the $1,000 range, while the Navigator and Aviator engines (which have more a little more HP and a good bit more torque) are in the $2,000-2,500 range). Of course the Aviator engine, being aluminum, only weighs 425 lbs while the Navigator engine is in the 540 lb range and the 6.8 V10 weights in at 640 lb. Of course the V10 has about 10 more HP, but a whopping 425 ft. lbs of torque vs 300-365 range in the V8's. Another consideration would be the availability of a fuel injection wiring harness from someone like the Detail Zone/Ron Francis and the availability of a Lokar or such shifter for the 4r100 tranny, but I could probably make an automatic column shifter work. Lot will depend on the price T.J.'s asking for the unit he has :-) and he says the mod engines go for cheap in his area.
