console apart

Post by azratrod »

so i found a shop locally that specializes in tbirds, falcons, rancheros, and some other odd ford vehicles. if anyone is looking... they have repop falcon consoles for the 65-66 rangers for $130. they also had parts for my console that is out of a 61-63 falcon. im using it to make my 64 truck look like it has a 64 ranger interior. after taking the console aprt to clean it and inspect it i noticed a few things. i picked up a new catch for the latch because it was broken. i also picked up original floor brackets out of a falcon. they are originally spot welded to the floor. so the "feet" of the brackets will need a little work. but im going to try to use them in the truck but im not sure if the falcons floor conture and the trucks floor conture are simular. either way i can still use the falcon brackets by cutting them and using the upper half and making new "feet". follow?

Post by azratrod »

here is the new duel master cylinder. its a gm style but it would have been the high performane type used in the 60s. IE: corvette

heim joint parts

Post by azratrod »

here are a few extra parts for the heim joints. cone spacers so the joints dont bind up and rod end seals to keep the elements out.

1951-56 cadillac/olds air cleaner

Post by azratrod »

here is a picture of the cadillac/oldsmobile aircleaner i got for the yblock. i know that i could have gotten a brand new one from speedway or socal. but i like REAL parts. cutting one up doesnt really bother me too much either. its not like its the last one on earth. the guy i bought it from had 5 hanging on his wall. and this air cleaner was actually cheaper then a new repop one from one of the belly button shops.

Build is looking great. I've been following it on both sites. I'm also interested in the console. Was it decent quality?

65-66 falcon console

Post by azratrod »

i didnt really look or play with the repop console that the thunderbird connection has. it looked decent. the owner said it was a molded piece that was taken from an original console

caddy/olds air cleaner mocked up

Post by azratrod »

picked up the 51-56 cadillac/oldsmobile aircleaner and started to mock it up on the yblock today. were going to run it as low as possible. the oil breather will need to be shortened or moved to the rear of the valley pan. the air cleaner is going to be painted white just like the firewall and cabs interior. once its been painted it will get some pin stripping.

Post by azratrod »

garbz and i mocked up the falcons consoles floor brackets today. they are going to need some tweaking to fit the profile of the trucks floor. but they are pretty dang close.

how the truck sits as of 5.1.2011

Post by azratrod »

this is how the truck sits as of today. remember that there is still some weight to be put on the front, in the interior, and in the bed. there is plenty of turning radius with the front fenders. im not going to run the original inner fenders. i might run some very small aluminum shield type inner fenders. or maybe nothing at all. well see as the build goes on.

Image
no inner fender wells

Image
its close!

Image
but its not going to rub. might have to be careful when im turning and the suspension is cycling up and down

Image
from the front

Image
from the side.
im 6 foot tall and the top of the fender is lower then my belt buckle

Looks GREAT! :D

I see those whitewalls were on something that needed a wheel alignment, whats the plan for wheels and tyres? Something white wall like what you had before or all new?

my old white walls

Post by azratrod »

yeah, i bought them used from a guy who had them on his car. they were in pretty decent shape. i mounted them and drove around for a weekend with out getting them aligned. they went bald that quick. now there just my "rollers" for this truck. a few posts back there is a picture of the new white walls that im going to use. there the same size and brand. 6.70x15 firestones
