Anyone running a nice sounding stereo setup?

Oh I laid down tons of sound deadener, as well as insulation under the hood and roof. But it's still just too loud at real highway speeds...

I was agreeing with you, dude. the wind noise is just really loud at highway speed no matter what you do ...

So I guess that's why I'm forced to blast that stereo to drown it out.

What did you use for sound deadener?..Dyno mat?

i mounted 6x9s in the doors and built a "piggyback" shallow box on top of the gas tank for a pair of 6.25s. It actually sounds good and can balance the sound now to where I get most of the vocals and highs thru the tank spkrs and the music and bass from the doors. I mounted them backwards but the difference is minimal.Eventually there will be shallow 8s under the seat. Another great addition is 1.5 dome tweeters mounted on the dash with velcro facing you. They give great depth and need no amp.

Hahaha yes its got mufflers. Its not so much the exhaust note as it is this massive whirring effect coming from under the hood, coupled with the wind noise wrapping the cab. But really, it doesn't bother me enough to stop me from driving the truck all day everywhere! I guess that's the bottom line.

I put down Peel & Seal on the floors all the way under the dash and inside the doors. Depending on where, two or three layers of that covered it pretty well. Then I used some heat/noise insulation from lobucrod.com, which I also glued under the hood and roof, and behind the tank. And then an ACC carpet with mass-backing topped it off. Don't get me wrong, its noticeably quieter than it was without all the sound deadener, but I'm just too picky about things.

I've got sound deadener everywhere, but there is still no getting around those 60's flying brick aerodynamics. Wind noise really kicks in above 65 mph, a big stereo does help over come the wind highway speeds. It funny, I just seem to turn the stereo up and not pay much attention to wind noise, until I had someone ride with me. I turned the music down to try to carry on a conversation and ended up shouting over the wind.

Yeah, Me too. And it sounds like we are all in the same boat. Hasn't stopped me from keeping it as my "daily." Hell. right now it's my only "cage."

Oh @ Frdnut - everyone has an opinion on what is best. Mine is that the wind is so rough at high speeds that I used peel'n seal. A lot of folks believe that peel n' seal works just as well as dyno mat anyway. I plan to use Hliner under the hood to try and quiet the roller rockers (but i don't really mind them so much, either)
