Nice gun, we have a large collection of guns as well, my youngest son is just getting started, he's is amazing for 13, he can name any gun there is, most of which he learned playing the video games and watching the military channel, he's out watching "Sons of Guns" right now as I type, I yelled at him and placed a photo of your gun on the screen so he couldn't read what it was and asked, he named it immediately. He said he likes the M1 Grand better, I have no idea what an M1 is but I guess that's his preference.
The picture of the Smokey Mt's is beautiful, I hope someday I can get out East and take them in personally, looks breathtaking.
I love to share a little time on the river so if anyone gets out this way and wants to fish or even just float the pretty sections to get a view that most never see make sure to let me know and I'll take a day off and float you down the river. I have 38 days of vacation built up and I need a good excuse to float. Be about 3 months before the weather will cooperate however so give it some time.
Hey...Thanks for sharing your hobbies guys, interesting to see what everyone does aside from the obvious, I thought there be a lot more woodworkers on the sight.

Everyone has got cool hobbies. I've wanted to do photography, but never bought a nice camera. I like the kayak pic, one on the things on my bucket list is learn how to flip a kayak.
Here's a picture i drew for fun on the mac using just the track pad

My roomate bought me this djembi for xmas, I'm not that good.

I like to draw in a sketchbook too, and i also collect coins/metal, so let me know if anyone has any coins to sell. lol

What other hobbies do you have?
I walk my dogs 3 miles 4 days a week and work out. I like playing video games. Got into modding and editing them some but that takes a lot of time so I don't do it much now. I got a ton of racing games and it can be fun to open them up and make your own paint jobs on the cars.
Not as easy as it sounds.
I like custom flames
And I did this RedBull

That's an amazing drawing out of a PC, looks a lot like you too. Believe it or not the photo of the white water is a white water raft with 6 people in it, no kayak, I'd never have the balls to go down the Lochsa or any white water river in a Kayak even though I do own a kayak, I play with it in my canal and a few small CALM lakes we camp at but no white water, I'm upside down more than I'm right side up in calm water, I can't even imagine if I got in something rough.abrasilian wrote:Everyone has got cool hobbies. The bulk of my interests are automotive: I've got the Slick, the BMW race car, the Austin Mini and my motorcycle. I've tried to diversify my interests to things that don't have engines, but it's not been easy.
We've got 3 dogs, and becoming a Dog Whisperer has been a passion of mine for some time. People are frequently surprised at how well behaved my pack is when their dogs are driving them crazy. I constantly study canine behavior and if I can ever block off the time I'd like to volunteer some training time at the local shelter, but unfortunately it's not conveniently located to me.
Over the winter I tinker with model trains. I don't have much in the way of photos of anything but here's one resin kit I did in O scale:

I've been wanting to attempt learning the banjo but it's a little hard to do without having purchased one.
Just waiting for the right deal to come along.

I love the weathering on the train, I have a several dozen buildings and various things for our model RR layout that will need weathering. The most amazing thing about current model RR to me is the digital era. Unreal that you can run multiple engines on one track with one controller all at the same time.
I too have a desire to learn to pick, I headed down the road of a guitar and went in to set up lessons as I knew I'd fail if reliant upon my own accountability to self teach and the only person in our small little town that gave lessons was just closing up shop and moving north when I went to sign up, bad thing is I bought the guitar and there it sits in it's case. Need to check and see if anyone else teaches lessons yet.
What kind of dogs do you have? We just lost a Border Collie (accident related to old age and no hearing), have Border/Austrailian Sheppard mix and we just picked up a little "WILD" Pug, aptly named Tugg. We also have two cats and I'll quietly say...I'm not a cat person! Dogs listen, cats could care less what you think or want.

Don't give up on the photography, although I do have a really nice full sized digital camera with all the fun lenses my primary source for photography is a Canon SD Powershot 1400 that I bought at Walmart, fits in my pocket and goes everywhere with me, 90% of the photos I take are with this camera because it is always with me and photo opportunities most frequently happen unannounced. The camera cost around $150 at Walmart. I highly recommend it. The more important thing you need is Adobe Photoshop, you can do amazing things with Photoshop. When I get home I'll pull in a few more pictures I've taken with the small camera.abrasilian wrote:Everyone has got cool hobbies. I've wanted to do photography, but never bought a nice camera. Ok, here's a small example of what you can do with Photoshop.
First picture is the original photo.

These next 3 are all modified in Photoshop by cropping out what I wanted and then modifying them with, Old Photo, Sepia or black and white, they are large files so I hope they all three load.

This one I just had enlarged, printed on canvas 40" wide by 9" high and I plan to frame it with Cherry Wood that will have tanned cowhide inlayed into the Cherry Wood, I just purchased a black and white speckled cow hide to do the inlay, framing project should get started in the next week or so, I'll show you the finished product once complete.

All of that from one original photo shot with a $150 digital Canon from Walmart. and modified with Adobe Photoshop 9.

I havent tried the banjo yet, still struggling with the guitar. I have come a long way in learning but dont expect to see me on the Opry any time soon lol . Besides my 65 slick, ive got 3 antique John Deeres and other misc. old junk.
I also am into ham radio and the wife and I love to travel with the RV.
All of the hobbies are sort of interactive as we may pull the rv to a music festival or antique farm show.and the radio and guitar go along.
Have been thinking about getting a Metal detector and give that a try.

They aren't that tough if you take "baby steps"
Start with a Blade MCX which is coaxial and very stable.
Next step up to a fixed pitch like the Blade 120 SR or mSR (the mSR is only 8" long and can fly it in your living room).
Then step up to a collective pitch.
I like the Eflite Blade Helis really well, good support, durable, and high quality.
Most hobby shops carry them so a readily available supply of parts.
I am presently flying the mSR (mine is Red though)

MCX 2

SR 120 (12")

Blade SR (collective pitch with Gyro)

That would be a blast to have the one you can fly in the house and chase that new little wild Pug we have, he'd be all wound up, cats would probably attack it and destroy it however. Those look like a blast. Much more exciting than the rock crawler, only so many things you can climb and it doesn't go fast enough to catch the cats or the dogs.

Weathering is an acquired skill that takes practice, of course. I've tried a few different mediums and prefer chalks for myself. Some guys like paint. Use whatever seems to work best; there is no wrong answer. I own an airbrush but find it irritating to use and a complete PITA to keep clean.Hookedtrout wrote:I love the weathering on the train, I have a several dozen buildings and various things for our model RR layout that will need weathering. One of the detriments to me picking up a banjo is where I live, bluegrass isn't exactly popular.

Hey, same here, not too many banjo pickers around these parts. All I know I have taught myself, both on the banjo and guitar. There are a lot of great resources out there. The great thing is that a lot of the great pickers have their own instruction methods out there. I am not much of a banjo picker but have had luck with Mel Bay's Teach Yourself Banjo and Earl Scruggs book...One of the detriments to me picking up a banjo is where I live, bluegrass isn't exactly popular. Thus, few players and even fewer teachers. Closest I've been able to find for instruction is a good 45 minute ride one way. However, there is such a plethora of online instruction now I'm willing to give that a try (even Cia Cherryholmes is giving online lessons now). I figure most classic bluegrass banjo players had to teach themselves, so why can't I? Of course, I'm not starting at a young age where stuff sticks to the sides of my skull like it used to...
