Tire Size Question

Post by noley99 »

I am planning on running solid steelies with 7 1/2" baby moons and trim rings on my Uni, 15x8 on the rear and 15x6 on the front. I found some on line at Coker Tire but wonder if there are any other places that can beat their price? They seem to be the cheapest I have found. Any ideas?

What tire size would you guys recommend for a low muscle car look?

I bought 4 Wheel Vintiques steel smoothies from Summit for just a tad over $200. Shipping from them was phenomenal too, at an $11.95 flat rate.

IMO - since you are going with Baby Moons, I'd stick with a blackwall tire. But, it's your truck, so if you want raised white letters - go for it.

Size wise, you can go with 275/60 in the rear, that is the widest recommended for an 8" rim. Front you can go with 255/60, 235/65, 225/70, or 215/70. (215/70 would give it a drag look)

I put 275/60 on my Cragar 15x8s for the rear, 225/70 on 15x7 on the front. The 215/70 would have been neat too.

I have the Firehawk Indy 500 tires. So far, I really like them.

Others I considered were the BF Goodrich T/A Radial, Cooper Cobra, and Goodyear GS II.

Any of these tires can be used RWL or BW.

 Let me correct myself, not way cheaper when you figure in the cost of gas and the fact that the Summit wheels do not come primed. For $20 more I can have the primed wheels shipped to my house from Coker.

Summit is about 100 mile round trip in my Z71. $$$$

No doubt living near one of the Summit warehouses must rule, but for $12 I can't complain about their shipping.

When I ordered mine from summit, they came primed when I ordered the plain ones.. If your palining on powdercoating they need to be blasted anyway. If your painting, you really should seal over the primer thats on the wheels when shipped.. Just an FYI, unless you just bomb-can them then just use rustoleum, and not worry about the primer, or if they are bare... By the way my shipping was a few cents under $12 also...

225 x 60 x 15 BFG T/As on 15 x 7 wheels Front
275 x 60 x 15 BFG T/As on 15 x 8 wheels Rear
Front also lowered 4 - 4 1/2 inches.
I would advise a 1/4" spacer on the rear with this combination BTW.
The tires will rub the inner wheel house if the truck tilts far enough pulling into a drive entrance.

Guys, thanks for all the replies. I have a better idea of what I will do.

Greg D, I like the stance of your truck. How did you lower your truck? I would really like to keep the stock height on the rear and lower the front.

Anyway we could get this post as a sticky in Hints and Tricks section, there's a lot of good information in this post, I'm sure I'll be looking for it when I get ready to order my wheels and tires.

Reverse eye monoleaf springs on the front - rear is stock in those pics.
You can also remove leafs from the springs - I did that first. Comes out the same height either way - monos ride better though.
