New hobby, does anyone mountain bike?

Post by abrasilian »

So I've decide I am getting me a mountain bike. I have been on a healthy diet and exercise binge. I have been doing p90x for a month now and am bored of the exercises and want to go trail riding instead. Does anyone mountain bike? A slick trip with the bike in the back sounds awesome. here's the one I am getting. http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/ga ... ls/marlin/.

I used to ride a lot, Got my first mt. bike back in about 85, they were a novelty then. I just love riding deer trails or motorcyle trails. I even did some riding in the Colorado rockies one summer..fire roads are incredible...

Haven't road much lately though..we still have some decent trails along the Des Moines river ...

I ride as well, we have an endless amount of trails, logging roads and I even know a few back ways into Yellowstone N.P. Only problem here is it keeps snowing about every other day...in feet not inches, may never get to ride again, ski yes, bike no.

Those are very nice bikes. High quality and will last a long time.

I ride a specilized rock hopper from 1999. I beat the CRAP out of that thing and it has only had to have $100 worth of repairs on it. I replace the grips a lot and the tires.

I run it down the mountains in colorado on the trails that guys run the full suspention bikes.

What are you going to ride it on? Paved Roads, Gavel Roads, Logging Roads, Flat Single trails, Curving Sigle Trails, Jumps and Obsticals, Realy Fast straight Down the Mountain?

It makes a differance what you are going to use it for. For normal siple trails you only need a 80mm Fork, but if you want to do any little bit of down hill you need a 180mm or more. Stuff like that.

You are going to a bike shop, that is a good thing. They can help you out. Listen to them.

Again, that is a nice one. You will enjoy it.

Yea the fork is a 100mm. I will upgrade it eventually. I'm just starting so I probably won't be doing anything too crazy tomorrow. I mostly got it for local trail ride, and small dirt jumps. I deff want to do some crazy down hill eventually. madmaxetc, what kind of protection do you wear? Do you you have any pics to post for us? I'll try to remember to take some tomorrow. haha Alan, I hope it goes better for me than those guys. LMAO

I have split 3 "acorn" style helments...but that is all I wear. I started wearing shin gards for the overgrown, or realy rocky trails.

I will look for some pics.

Yea, I have shin guards from riding dirt bikes, and I was thinking I'd wear my dirt bike helmet when doing a bit crazier stuff. Especially now after what bill said. Just starting to ride I am going to wear my pro tec helmet though.

I have a Specialized Hard Rock mountain bike. Have had it for years and put over 1,000 miles on it. Great to mix up running and mountain biking (although down here it's just dirt hills, not mountains).

When I lived near the city, my next door neighbor in my apt. bldg. was a downtown bike courier and had 5 Specialized bikes he used for work. He peeled off the 'IZ' on each bike so it read "SPECIAL ED". Can't look at another Specialized bike (including my own) without thinking about that dude.

That looks like a dang nice bike, let's see some action shots, just make sure you land it, seems like those with the camera will always take pictures of the aftermath if things don't work out.

hahaha, That is funny! my buddy rides a specialized bike. Next time I'm over his house I'm going to secretly peel the IZ off of his. ahahahha. I'll get some action pics soon, but not too soon. Today will be my first riding day on a mt bike, and I don't want to be that guy on youtube eating shit on a mt bike. lol
