will 56-59 292-312 dual exhaust manifolds fit?
will 56-59 292-312 dual exhaust manifolds fit?
I was curious if these manifolds will work on a 64 F-100 with thw original 292 in it? It is a 3 speed on the column thats why I ask. I really wanna get rid of the stock cross over set-up, and put some duals on it.. if theses won't fit what should i look for that will (without spending a fortune)..Or does anybody have a set of used headers... The simple answer is no they won't, but Greg D has indicated that he has been able to make them work in the past. I'm sure he'll chime in.
The most cost effective option is to remove the crossover pipe, cap it off on the passenger side, you'll probably have to make the cap, have a pipe made which mounts at the crossover flange on the driver side and bends down, around the fuel pump, and under the truck. It's not the most graceful but it works.
Other than that, it's rams horns or headers. Headers can be had pretty cheap if they are bare, that is you paint them, or painted. Headers or rams horns, you're looking at around $200, minimum.
For what it's worth, some dyno testing has indicated that Red's shorties are actually pretty good for street and race performance. Sometime soon we should have a very thorough test of many headers and manifolds for the Y.

Actually (not to dispute my fellow Y-blockers) they WILL work...BUT it takes a considerable amount of tubing fabrication to make it fit around the steering column and clutch shaft. Doug (64Ranger) put them on his truck. I saw the installation closeup at Slick Stock. If he doesn't chime in suggest you send him a PM.
Personally, I sprung for the Ram's Horns from John Mummert for my Uni, although Red's is a less expensive route.

I have one on the passenger side of the Uni - passenger side bolts right up with plenty of room for a pipe. Still have a "hillbilly header" on the drivers side. I did have one hung on the left side of the engine for "fitting" - never had a pipe on it. In short the manifold will point the exhaust pipe right at the steering column and too close to have one bent to go around it. You are also pretty close to the clutch Z bar.
I believe it can be made to work but it's not even close to a bolt on. I saw one that the flange was cut off, ground to an angle and welded back together.
I was wondering if could make a pipe could be made to clear the column - would require some tight bends that are then cut apart and welded back together - not the best solution for performance but would sound good for an old school exhaust.
Another solution that wouldn't be horrible would be to swap the 2 sides so the pipe flange was at the front of the engine. You could have a very reasonable bend in each pipe, have plenty of room, and it would sound pretty decent.
Work on the Uni is on hold for the 64 right now so I won't be pursuing it further for quite a while.

I have a set on my 64 and they work great. Now mine is automatic and Im sure that makes a diff.. The only thing I really had to mod. was the shift linkage. Just alittle. Its alittle tight but works great. Passenger side, no problem. Good Luck LEE

I run a set of the stubbie reds. They fit good. The reducers are pretty small so I didnt use them.
