Oh man! That is sure looking good! Oh wait...there is an airplane in your photo! I was looking at the Uni...

My next project is building (assembling?) a World Models 46 size Miss America arf and converting it to electric power for a customer. I will be using a PJS 3D 3000 brushless motor and a Hacker 70am esc.

Then, a Ben Buckle 88" Quaker will be built and converted to electric.

Photos to come in another thread...

You fly Old Timers Jake?
One of my favorite types of RC planes.
I flew a Astro version of the old Cleveland Models Viking I built for over 5 years before selling it, had another one I flew for a year before that (wing failure - I didn't build it). It was converted to glow with a OS .15 FP which was more than enough for it. I could fly it for up to 30 minutes on a tank of fuel.
One of these days I want to build a 1941 Spook - just can't resist that gull wing. If I run across another Viking kit I may end up building another of those too but I'll leave the next one E powered.
Nothing like kicking back in a lawn chair putting around the sky with one.

Foodstick, I know this is off subject but what did you paint the inside of your Uni box with? Is that Por 15?

yes it is..I am gonna try using some similar things in the future, I found a can of the eastwood chassis stuff in my paint area today..not even sure when I bought it?

I had started using gray por on my 62, so I thought I had better stay with it...

I've had pretty good luck with it. But if you don't prep right, it does not stick ...I hope I haven't messed up anywhere , I have tried to not screw up...

I have just painted it over old paint to cover it temporarily..and it does not adhere well long term that way...

So you're talking about the cleaning solution as well as the metal prep that they sell with the package. I just painted my rusty floors with it and applied the metal prep before hand. Seems to have dried tough as iron but I guess time will tell.
I also did my back bumper with it so I could see how it stands up to sun & snow etc.

Was just wondering if it was a good enough product to paint the inside of my rusty box with.

I think if it seems to grab and color well on the first coat you are good, a couple times I sort of experimented with it, I noticed if it sort of slides over the surface, and seems thin, transparent the first coat..you might have an issue.

All in all I love the stuff, Supposedly the Eastwood stuff is similar, less FUMEY!

hahahha is that a word? or state of foggy mind?

Don't know if I can get those other products up here and Por 15 isn't cheap by any means either. Better than a rattlecan by far though  .

By the way, 20 years ago, Foggy was my only state of mind

I wish there was a POR product that could rebuild my liver.

I have a Byron Originals P-40 Kittyhawk that I need to finish. It has the Precision Eagle 4.2, Purr Pow'r system, three blade prop, full cockpit, sliding canopy, retracts, etc and is just about ready for paint. It will not have the shark mouth nose, but will be modeled after a P-40 that was flown by then Lt. Sidney S. Woods in Australia. Here is what his P-40 looked like...

I like them all, Greg. It really doesn't matter. Gas, glow, electric, old timers, scale, sport, fun fly, float planes, pylon racers...it's all good!

My wife tells me, "You and those airplanes! It's a sickness! Just a sickness!!" I reply, "It is better than alcoholism!" Now I have a new sickness...Slickitis!!!

Here is one of the planes that I designed named the Super Whoot. It is over 12 years old and has been flown from both land & sea. It has an ASP 40 Blackhead and the fuse is all glued together with CA...even the firewall! I would hate to guess how many flights are on this airplane, but it has to be over 200.

It will actually be about a foot longer with the cowl and tail on.
It has a 104 inch wingspan (biplane), and it is waist high when on its wheels.

Are you going to compete with this airplane?

Sure! I wanted something different on my P-40 than the shark's mouth that is on almost all of the P-40s out there. (I have had a few myself) Plus, I like the artwork on this P-40. Also, I am planning on entering this at the Gunsmoke Scale Masters Qualifier and am hoping that maybe, subconciously, the Arizona judges may give me extra points because of the artwork, the word ARIZONA on the aircraft and the fact that an guy from Arizona flew the full size verion during WWII.

Well, then, why don't you bring it out to the Gunsmoke Scale Masters Qualifier this coming March? You could enter it in Team Scale and I would fly it for you.
:hm:  :o

Actually, I have flown two of John Cole's early birds in Team Scale in the past and we won both times. The first was with his Proctor Jenny and the second time with the DeHavilland DH-1a pusher that he designed. His DH-1a was produced as a kit by Arizona Model Aircrafters.

Jake,
I have always thought it would be cool to compete. Maybe I should build something and we could talk.

Thanks, Greg! I wanted the Super Whoot to look like a 30's era racer and it does, kinda. It flies fast, but lands slowly due to the double reflex airfoil that I designed.

If you decide to build an airplane to compete with, please let me know. There are a few things you need to know before building a Scale Masters aircraft. Please let me know if you want to proceed and we can get together and work something out. You know, the weather is great out here in March!
http://www.azmodelaviators.com/Gunsmoke ... lifier.htm

BTW, I happen to be a Certified Scale Masters Judge and have worked a weekend at Gunsmoke as a flight judge. You can learn a lot doing that!

Jake

PS,
Foodstick, your Pup is nice enough to be competitve, anywhere. You should enter it in a few contests, even if you need to find a good pilot to fly it in Team Scale, if you don't feel comfortable flying it yourself. Maybe I should have you build a scale aircraft for me to compete with!!! I am a builder, but you are a BUILDER!!!
