Cant Kill a Y-Block....

Pulled motor today and found out where my loss of compression was in the 292. Am very glad it stayed together during slickstock as my bad piston came out in pieces

Took a pic for you guys to see how bad I killed it. Next slickstock she will be bigger and badder and might even be able to drive it there!

That's impressive. You're probably gonna need a stroker crank and some of those aluminum heads from Mummert's to even put that baby together again (just in case you have a wife who reads this).

as of right now its .060 over. unsure if it origionally was a 272 or 292 now but gunna go to at least a 312 std bore and get a isky cam and put big valve heads in it. Im still debating throwing msd in it, all depends on budget this winter but should be a really strong runner once i get done.

Lowell's correct! Remember it's a Y-Block not an FE. JB Weld it, put it back in and you should be good for another 100,000 miles.

.060 0ver 292 is .010 0ver 312. At that size, sonic testing will be wise, even with a Y block, and particularly if it is a C2AE block.
A good alternative to MSD, if you plan to use a box, is to convert to a Duraspark trigger. It's basically what MSD uses anyway, and much cheaper. If it's not something you want to do yourself, Performance Distributors can provide a Durapark distributor, custom curved, to fit your engine. The biggest downside to the Duraspark route is that you must use a box, while the MSD does not require a box.

Not cost effective. In my area, to sleeve 8 cylinders is about $1200. You can buy 4 or 5 engines for that and find a good one to rebuild easily.

One time I was doing a burnout, and suddenly the rear end blew up, and the 292 went straight to the moon. I saw the RPM needle rocket to 8k and drop back down!

It didn't even cough. It's a stock 200k motor that's the only thing on the truck that's never given me any trouble.

Yep, you can't kill a y-block.

Back in the mid 60s I had my 292 bored to a .060 over 312. It lasted a long time. A spun bearing finally got it.
