262/223 motor mounts on a 62
262/223 motor mounts on a 62
So the rubber motor mounts on my truck are in pretty rough shape. So much so that I cant even really tell what they originally looked like. My problem is that when I look up motor mounts in the catalogs, about half of them say I need one style for the front mount and another style for the mounts on the back. The other half say I use the same style mount on all 3 points. Do you guys have any insight as to which way is correct?

I ordered three of the front mounts from Napa and for the most part they look correct. There are a few things that are buggin me though. The old mounts fit snug into the hole on the cross bar. The new ones are a bit smaller so there is more play between the rubber collar and the hole. Will this be a problem? Also, the old mounts didn't have a tube in them to limit compression and looking at catalogs, it seems that this is the only part of the mount that is not available. does any one have a few of these laying around or know where you can pick them up?

I may have a few spares.
By the time you pay to have the mailed you can probably just make new ones though. Get a piece of tubing that fits the bolt cut it to 2 3/16" and there you are.

would probably make sense to just make some if I keep these. Thanks for the measurement.
On the other hand, I think I know why the sleeve doesn't fit right. I was just looking at the Dennis Carpenter catalog and it does appear that there is a slight difference between the 1960 mound and the 61-64 mount. Looks to be just a bit bigger from the picture in the catalog. May have to go back to Napa and see if they have anything like that or maybe just buy new ones from DC.

there are different rubbers that have a smaller nub. were used on some cars.i would be hesitant to use one smaller. reason being that it helps aligns the engine on those 3 spots.

As I remember, I got the bisquits from DC for mine. When I got my pickup, there were no steel tubes in there and the engine was walking all over the place. I finally found one tube in a junkyard, and using it for a sample, I made two more out of 4130 Aircraft tubing. It does seem that the measurement was slightly less than 2 inches but don't remember for sure.

Here's how mine looked after 44k miles. I probably should replace mine too, eh? They really shouldn't be flattened out, right?
