Need headliner ideas..

my slick has no headliner! not even the old one.. i would rather make my own,, if anyone has a tip or trick would you send it my way,, heck i'll even buy one if anyone can make it,, plain black would due, I'm not very good with interior makin but I'll give it my best, throw me a bone!!! or in other words HEELLLPPP!!!!

I'm getting ready to get a Rod Doors one piece unit made specifically for our trucks.
Dane put one in the Okie Coupe and it looked bitchin', and Max just got one for Spooky.
He's really happy with it and the company, despite some bad press here.
Seems like the company moved to another state and didn't respond to questions or phone calls during the move.
Max had a credit with them for over a year, and when they got relocated, they contacted him about the credit and honored it.
I'd say that is pretty good business.
Check it out before you decide.

I would say from experience, that unless you want to get RIPPED OFF to the tune of double what you should have paid, stay the he!! AWAY from RODDOOR$

and buy one from National Parts Depot.

Check my pictures out here. They are in my photo album for willy3486. I used some of that corragated plastic sign material they use for election signs. I then covered it with suade leather I got for 10 bucks. IT has held up good for about 2 years now. I made clips in a "s" shape out of copper wire and slid them in the headliner in the front towards the sunvisors. Then they will slide into the cab with no need for the clips. And they can't be seen. I only have about 15 in them. You can make you a pattern out of cardboard and transfer it to something else. Just get it to the shape ou want. Look at some reproductions to see how they are made. Trial and error can save you tons of money.

i took a ride in my 4x4 yesterday, the headliner is getting crusty and starting to sag, even though i painted it a few years ago.i cant pay any outrageous price for a headliner or shipping on them, i have several other ones that are in slightly better shape but i am going to make my own using the others as a pattern.

that's true trial and error, guess i'll have to raid the local grocery store for their boxes, real steathy like,, go under cover and snatch me some

I used .034 alum. traced out the parts using the old headliner. Then glued on 1/4 inch foam padding the kind with cloth on one side, glueing the side w/o cloth to the alum. then glued the upholtery to the side of the foam with the cloth. The cloth makes it easy to remove the material if you dont get it like you want it the first time. pics in my albm.

Does the aluminum try to bow downward on the large upper part, or does it stay put pretty well? I'm wondering, because there aren't a lot of extra places to brace that big piece.

No it stayes where you put it. The downward curvature on each side above the doors cause it to push up in the center, plus there is a screw in the center and the clips over the windshield plus the screws above the doors. The peaces in the corners on either side of the back glass need to be preformed to fit the corners before installing the foam or the vynal to keep from having wrinkles. The peace above the back glass just need to be preformed near each end.
