1966 Ranger

Post by Michelle »

The other Ranger from Smithville came by my house today. It is a 66 model and I made plenty of pictures. The lady that owns it has owned it since Jan. 67. The truck was six months old when she and her husband bought it. It is very original in every respect.

Nice straight truck with no rust. It has 16 inch wheels.

V code, its for real.

It all the original Ranger trappings.

Look closely and you can still see the Ranger in the oval.

Hey Michelle,
How is it that it that the 'visiting Ranger' is black?
According to the exterior color chart ( http://fordtruk.com/index45.html ), black was not an available exterior color for Ford trucks in 1963-66? :dontknow: shrug.gif

Color Code "A" is Black for '57/'58, and '60 - '66 (and possibly later).

that has both the V and the A thats enough to convince me.

I just did a double check of the parts manual and it says A code = Black Ford part number 1724 acrylic enamel 1964 to 71.

I've seen lots of Black 66's
Just because it wasn't on the colour chart didn't mean you couldn't get it , it was just a special order (I guess). You sure don't see it much on the middle years of Slicks.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

I agree, It is a very nicely preserved original surivor. A comment on the 16" wheels. The factory used the old style innie wheels for '66, if the optional 16" wheels were ordered. The bump style 16" wasn't introduced until 1967. So this '66 would come from the factory with the 61-65 small style hubcaps.

This truck is original paint.
It also has the red interior trim like the Ranger Michelle posted.
I should someday see if he still has it.

If the color is special order there will be no tag color stamped on the warranty plate.

The DSO is a six digit with the last four being the special order consecutive invoice. The 1254 will cover the 16 inch wheels. The truck was special ordered by the dealer.

It looks like a nice documented survivor.

I believe all of you........

I simply figured that any non-special ordered color would have been listed on the color code chart.
I wonder why it wasn't included on all the 60's color chart then? shrug.gif It was listed on the '62 color chart.

Another mystery of FoMoCo I guess.........

Ok, here's my question....

Wasn't the Ranger supposed to be like the best equipped? Or was the Custom Cab the one with all the bells and whistles?

Cause I don't get why the two Rangers these ladies have, have the manual trans in the floor.

Now now, I realize, like with anything it could have been special ordered with whatever they wanted, but still.

Just don't get why something with so many options and something so special would have the manual. *shrug*

And there's no way they didn't offer something in black. Cause everybody knows, even ol Henry himself was a fan of black.... You can have it in any color you want, so long as it's black.

The Ranger package requires the Custom Cab option. However, these packages are for additional comfort, convience and appearance only. Mechanical options were separate options that could be ordered on even the most base models.

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not, Fire Truck....

Earlier I posted the link provided in this sites' technical articles - http://fordtruk.com/index45.html - and there you can see that PINK is not listed as an available color. However, I'm sure they would/could have put PINK on your ordered truck if desired; it would have simply been a 'special order' color.
But that is the same conclusion I made about the color Black as well..... since it isn't listed on the chart either. Apparently I should assume that the color chart is NOT a completely accurate chart of available colors.

Effie, there are those of us who don't understand why anyone would want an automatic transmission in their vehicle.
