That looks like a rat snake to me. Very common around my house, and they get to be 6 feet long! I know they are around, but snakes never fail to startle me when I come accross one. Never ready for it!

Snakes never bothered me till a couple weeks ago when one killed my dog. Now I'll just kill them.
So good lookin' that I've attracted an international stalker.

Back when I was more mobile, I had a saying that "All snakes are dangerous poison or not they will make me hurt myself"
As my dad used to say, somewhere there was a horse that died a painful death from terminal constipation due to missing a key part of its anatomy.

There's a species of rattlesnake here that is called a Timber Rattlesnake and they are protected as well. They are an endagered species. I would not hesitate to kill one on my property if I saw one.

Alan,

I am just a dumb ole boy from Georgia, kinda have to relate everything to catfish and cornbread to understand it. What in the heck is a Kookaburra? we do have cookleburrs here seedlike things that stick to your clothes if you walk through the woods but I am pretty sure they don't eat snakes

Glad I live on the west side of Oregon.

We have rattle snakes. But they are few and far between, considering I have only seen 1 in the past 23 years.
We do have Garter snakes, and slugs the size of snakes.

We can still kill rattlesnakes in California. Yeah, I'm shocked too. You can tell snakes are coming out of hibernation around here; there's usually one or two squashed on the road every day on the way in to town. Better to see them on the road than in your truck.

Obsa, here`s a link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il98W12WqH4

pronounced, Cook A Burra.

I`ve seen them take sausages off a hot BBQ plate and take ( steal ) food from unsuspecting people.

Thanks Alan,

After Dan responded I did a google search and watched that youtube video. I would like to have a trio of those but I am sure that somewhere their is a petty rulemaker that would be going :nono: not in backwards Georgia.

:iagree: Gary.
I feel the same way about raccoons, skunks and possum.
They can live on State-owned land, but not on my property.
When I first moved here, I said they can live in the woods, but they never stayed in the woods!
So, I had to finally say, "NOT on the property!"
I've got it posted for a reason - so they better learn to read English or else! hunting.gif
