Frame Mounted Battery Box

Post by 1965fordf100 »

Does anyone have any pics of custom frame mounted battery boxes? Thinking of doing this with my truck as I am finishing the frame. I can't find much through Google searching...

Hey Phil, Are you talking about the battery box under the passenger side floor that is bolted to the frame?
I took mine off to clean it up when I get time. There is also a splash gaurd mounted to the frame in front of it.
My box needs repaired before I can put it back in. I can post a pic of it tomorrow before I head to work.

Wyatt...I wasn't speaking of the factory box under the passanger floor, but it isn't a bad thought to use something factory and make it work. My truck didn't have that option. Actually I'm gonna check into the factory box. Wyatt if you can post pics that would be awesome!

White...I will look at Sac ford...I go to Sac for work meetings once a week so I may check them out to!

interesting...I wonder how difficult it would be to use that type of tray without access to it in the cab? I thought I have seen some that have a drop out bottom, to make access to it easier from under the truck rather than through the cab floor.

What size Batt. are you going to run?

I have been looking for something to design in CATIA that is truck related. If you give me the size I could model something up with drawings.

It is sweet. I work on it all day, but it is for stuff that I will never get to work on or own. So it is fun to work on stuff I might acualy use/own.

Dan...I will be running a group 34 battery. That would be awesome if you could come up with a cool design that could be fabricated easily!
Iceman...My truck is a 65 so I don't have the cut out or the indented stamp on the passanger floor like the 64 and earlier cabs do. And if I am suppose to then it was cut out and replaced (poorly I might add) a long time ago

I am running dual group 31 batteries. The trays are mounted under the bed on the inside of the frame rail. They are the factory under floor battery tray.

Under the bed floor is a good idea...keeps the outside of the frame rail clean. I found a tray on a website today...www.thehotrodcompany.com. It looks like something that should work too...

Bluebolt...Thanks! Speedway is where I saw this box, and it is the exact one I was thinkin of. Funny that I couldn't remember where I saw that box at, and I get Speedway's newletters weekly, lol. I don't remember that box being that pricey though, the weld in, or bolt in one on the same page seems more pocket friendly!

If you hit the bone yards check the Ford Vans/cut-aways with a 7.3 or newer.. They have a nice frame mount battery box.. You may even be able to get a good price on a new one through ford..

What a PITA that would be if you had trouble in the ice ,nsow , or mud. If it's just a show truck, thats Ok, or if you don't want to mess with uncovering the batter box in the floor board. I prefer mine under the hood and away from most damaging elements as much as possible. Might eve put it in a boat battery box. Not very sanitary looking as for show, but keeps everything covered and no acid on metal. Haven't done it yet, though. One thing thous, I would not rely on just grounding the frame where the battery mounts. I would also run a cable direct ot the engine and bed. Cab grounds from the engine.
