Hold the bolt head with a box wrench & drill down the center. If you use the right size bit & your aim is good, once you're thru the head, you should be able to pull sharp on the wrench & snap the head off & the nut & rest of the bolt should fall on the floor... That's what I'd try.

the front 6" of my bed floor needs replacing.
i cut out the piece from another bed last year.
used a torch when i should have used a spot weld drill.
made a bad part that way and more work for myself. bang.gif
so
cut another 6 " piece from the same bed.
cut the ribs that were different shape on the end out of the 1st piece and welded them into the 2nd. thats the 2 by the bolt holes and the one in the center.

now i just have to drill the spot-weld holes into the piece, and will be ready to fix my bed soon as the weather allows.
pics make the welded area look black for some reason, but its shiny metal.

now its time to drag the shop vac over and clean up the mess of sanding and grinding i have going from the hood, fender, tailgate and bed piece.

Dang Brian, That's one challenge I don't think I'm up to. Having to weld all that would drive me crazy. Welding is not one of my strong points. You are doing one heck of a job. Keep them pics of progress coming. It keeps me motivated.

Repainting it the same color Brian?
Or do you have something else in mind?

not the same color, could not find anything close in the hardware store metal paint selection.

be patient, you will see shortly.

had a big laugh there the other day when i asked the salesman if they were going to keep my colors in stock until i finish the truck. he said no, soon as i leave they were changing to another brand.

Implement Paint, etc. you are not locked into the stock colors they have. The same could be done with Duplicolor Paint Shop paints.
You can buy 1 Gallon clean empty cans.
Ford Tractor Blue 1pt to about 1-1.5pts with White would give you a light blue - more white = lighter.
1pt Yellow, 1pt Blue, 4pts White would give you an Aqua or Turquoise.
All you need is a repeatable formula. Some care and graduated plastic paint pails from the hardware can give you that. Mix the whole mess in a 5 gallon pail for consistency, transfer to gallon cans for use & storage.
Just a little food for thought.

doors and vent windows
vent window rubbers were pretty simple
Hint:
line up the holes first and work away from them
Image

the washer with the divot are splined and press onto the shaft.
i used this method. the spline has a fat tooth for locating the divot.
Image

Image

i left the plastic on the division bar so as not to scratch the paint until i was done moving it around to get the vent window in.
best to remove the window crank and door opening mechanism , makes the insertion of the bar much easier. the top of the bar must be above the top hinge nearly to the top of the door to get the right angle for the bottom to push into the door panel opening and stand up. put the window crank and door lever back in after you get the division in place but before you line it up and put in the vent and bolt/screw it together.
Image

some pics of the doors.

dark machinery gray
osha safety green.

so i got the vent windows in and the division bars and all the new run and the fuzzy seals.
bending of the glass run is a bit tricky. more like stretching it around the top rear corner of the window. when i was done i had about 3/8 extra of the inner support wires protruding from the run.
sidecutters ate them off. its pretty tight on the door frame, might be a bit off in spots but still far better than the old.

i still have to put the main glass in and rubber seal on the door.
i have white door pockets i may use.

Did you do that with rattle cans? Wow! Looks great! Can't wait to see it all. Thanks for the tips on the vent windows.

Lookin' great Ice!!! :thumright: That OSHA green is close to the green we use on the emergency fuel lines for the diesel at the hospital. we run our boilers and generators off of it. I like the two tone. will it be painted the same way as the tow truck??? Keep us posted...

Brian, how close is the nearest auto parts store to you? How far do you have to go for paint or parts?
