Jakdad I think your right, don't know what the H___ I was thinkin while I was typing. I might go to Wyoming for a Slick now JC, just couldn't then. Be better if it were a T-top car but it's awful nice for an 85. Most of em have been butchered up. Found a nother nice one in one of my Stang forums for sale, Texas is closer than Maryland though, specially this time of year.

4500 for a 85 stang?

Am I missing something here. I can buy 93 and later stangs for that kind of money. I don't keep up with this market, so I'm somewhat befuddled. Everything I remmember hearing about stangs of those years, is that you really don't want to drive one on ice and snow. Swap ends real quick, on slick pavement, if I remmember right. I like the car but seems a lot to me, for it.

The market value is rising lately on Fox bodies. '85 is the last year for carburetors, no third brake light & a few other small things. This one still has it's original paint & looks really clean.
I would think that if he leaves it in it's current condition, it will only appreciate in the coming years.

IMO, the 93 body style will be the readheaded stepchild of the newer 'Stangs & with the exception of SVT's, Saleens, Roush's, etc., won't be worth as much in the future as the Fox bodies.

Greg says his experience in working in Sales at a Ford dealership taught him the Fox cars are increasing in value, and he has been on the lookout for a few specific models, this being one of those.

I had 2 fox cars, a Mustang and a Capri. They handle nice in nice weather, but have no ass end in the winter whatsoever. No worse, however, than driving a 2WD pick-up truck in winter. I bought one because they were a world of improvement over the previous Mustang 2, which I was afraid might be the death of the Mustang, entirely. They were light enough, that even with a smogged out 302, they learned those kids in their Chebbys a lesson or two.

However, having owned 2, I would not say they were the best built (or close to it) cars I have ever owned. Greg wants one , and is willing to pay premium dollar for a nice Texas rust free one, good on him. I don't have a big desire for one, but I think he is looking at it as somewhat of an investment.

85 GTs are the last of the carburated cars along with the other things mentioned. The most notable item though is it being the first year of the Roller Cam 302 but ONLY in the 5 speed cars. Ford had promised more GT horsepower for 84 and then didn't deliver, the auto trans 85 GTs essentially had the same non roller cam 84 engine. Nice unmolested cars are very few and far between, a couple more 85 GTs popped up in the last couple days but both are in need of restoration, there was also a couple 85 GT 5 speed convertables that ended just before this one. One of those cars was pretty rough but complete, the other was quite a bit nicer but needed a full restoration. One of the most recent 2 was a T-Top car which would have been my first choice just because it had the option if nothing else the other has a factory sunroof which would be cool too. This car was just too nice to pass up though. It will of course remain unmolested. I don't plan on driving it in the snow either, lol. I'll make a post when I get the travel plans finalized, although I am tempted to have it trailered up here. This guy hauls collector cars too and does it at what I consider to be a fair rate. I'll sort this out soon though. Might rent a one way car and drive down too. BTW ran it on NADA in the classic section, over $9000.00 for a nice car!

Interesting. I do like those cars, but never owned one. Generally, I like the big boats, Park Avenues, Cadilacs, 225's etc.. I do own a 91 Turbocharged Capri, which is a different kind of critter. Designed in Italy, Mazda drive train, assembled in Australia, and sold as an American car.

Doesn't really know what it is, but the little thing will fly, drives like a dream, and corners like nothing else I've ever owned. New experience working on it though.

my brother had one of those brand new with the t-top and manual trans.
cool and a fast car, but not a winter ride as he found out after a slide sideways over a curb which removed that side rear wheel from the axle.i only drove it once but compared to the mustang 2 it was quite a bit better car.
i had an EXP at the time, got a deal on it,it was a nice car but too small for me.have not seen one of them for years now.

hmmm.

the past two equipment auctions I went to there were several mustangs of that era there, they went fairly cheap too if i recall. (2000 or lower I think) however I didnt pay any attention to the specific year or drivetrain as I'm not a mustang guy.

There was also a 2000(ish) Mustang Cobra at the auction a couple months ago, around 20,000 miles and sold for 17,000 I think. Again I didnt pay attention though as I'm not a mustang guy.

Maybe I should start paying attention
