None of the Canadian members that post here regularly have a Harley, or to my knowledge even have a motorcycle. The season for using them here is an absolute maximum six months long. And they are insanely expensive.

But I have some personal friends who DO have Harleys locally. They feel obligated to ride them every single weekend just to get their money's worth out of them. Rain , shine, wind or hail they are riding them things every weekend.
I have heard them complain that some weekends they would like to just sit around the back yard, but then their 30 thousand dollar Harley is going to waste.

The same scenario happens when people have $50,000 worth of camping gear sitting in their driveway, they feel obligated to go camping every weekend. Their equipment is dictating their lifestyle, seems Bass Ackward to me.

And then there is the whole Harley gear thing. They buy and wear nothing but Harley paraphernalia, and their houses are littered with things that they paid way too much for because it had a Harley logo on it. Reminds me of when my daughter was 13 and she had to have everything that Avril Lavigne put her name on.

So I don't envy them, or feel jealous, or want one of them things in the slightest way., that is to say I want one about the same as I want my own tennis court.. sure they are nice to look at. If I feel like getting up at noon on Saturday and renting a movie, doing nothing all day, I don't have to worry about thousands of dollars of equipment going to waste. If it's raining I just stand at the window and laugh.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

probably only a few days out of each year i would actually feel safe driving a motorcycle on the highway here, too many big trucks, motorhomes and just plain unsafe drivers.

Wahou Johnny , funny what you're thinking about ride a motorcycle :P , in Paris it's impossible to drive a car ... Trafic is terrible , so we go to work with motorcycle with my wife ( in France we can drive beetween cars lines ) , everyday rain or sun ...
And how to describe the fantastic sensations when you drive on little Country roads , it's really cool ... I just wear a Jean and a solid leather jacket , and at home I have some motorcycle items but trucks and mustangs to ...
and for the money I think that it must spend now , because tomorow can be to late....

I've been riding Harleys for over 40-years. Most of the time in California, but I lived in Michigan, Alberta, and Alaska and dealt with the cold. Not to be a prick, but we have 2-3 days out of the year in So Cal when we can't ride unless we want to put up with minor rain, or temps dipping into the 60s. I used to ride all year long, but these days going out to the garage and seeing if my bike will still start is what I consider going for a ride. For So Cal traffic my favorite Harley is a Ford Harley-Davidson. That's one Harley cars don't screw with.

I had a Victory Vegas for 3-years it was the first 106 kit, and Arlen Ness's was the second one to hit the streets. Damn, I drank all of this coffee so I would write December's editorial, I better get back to work, talk to you guys later.

Roc, congrats on the purchase of your Harley. I hope that you enjoy it as much as my wife and I enjoy our Harley's.
At least living in Phoenix, we can ride them almost year round. We usually park ours in July and August when most people are riding their bikes. It's just too hot here those months to ride unless you have to.
I did take a good ride on Friday up into the hills where it was cooler and then back home (about 104 at 3 o'clock).

Enjoy it,
Kevin

old trucks,

Back in 85 I worked part time as a Honda service tech. One of the first jobs I got at the shop was to replace a chipped gear in a 84 Goldwing like yours. what a job!

Back from the trip 1834 total miles. For all you Oregon and Northern California folks "We'll Be Back" We saw some incredible country and want to come back and check it out some more in the future.

Went to wild cat mopars wrecking yard and paid for the quarter panel we need, great people and a very nice yard any mopar fans that don't know about these people check them out. wildcatmopar.com

Saw a few slicks but didn't get any pictures. We were kind of pressed for time and pretty well stuck to business but still enjoyed the ride, the only way to see new country. Next trip will probably be closer to 2 weeks because of all the things we want to see more of.
